Fun-Filled Summer Camp For Kids and Adults with Special Needs

If you’re a parent or caregiver planning summer activities for your child or adult, here is a resource to consider.  Christian Berets offers summer camps for children and adults with disabilities at their Retreat Center, situated on 46 acres of wilderness in the Sierras, and located in Mi Wuk Village about 15 miles east of the 49er Gold Rush town of Sonora, California.

Rochelle Van Horn, executive director of Christian Berets says, “Each Camp is designed to match the abilities of our guests in a safe environment, and to provide a camping experience that allows them to discover and enjoy new things within the scope of their abilities and interests”.  She adds, “the camps promote physical wellness, foster social interaction, and teach wholesome values.  The guests enjoy building friendships with caring Staff and other campers. Together, they experience indoor and outdoor activities that encourage and engage them”.

Group activities include archery, ping-pong, basketball, horseshoes, water games, whiffleball, foosball, volleyball, frisbee toss, shuffle board, hiking, and more!  Adaptive activities focus on the individual’s unique abilities and skill sets.

Taking nature hikes, enjoying fun picnics, roasting marshmallows, and singing around the campfire are long-standing favorites.  Other activities include puppets, role-playing with costumes, skits, crafts, drawing, painting, chalk talks, camp visits by forest rangers and fire trucks, hot air balloon rides, fun photo ops sitting on Harleys, and more!

If you would like further details about upcoming camps for youth and adults or would like to volunteer at Camp,  please contact Christian Berets @ 209-524-7793. Don’t forget to ask about their current promotion of $100 off a summer camp event, deadline April 30th.
