Modesto City Council Unanimously Approves Plans for Inclusive and Accessible Playground
By: Rachel Loredo
Good news! The Modesto City Council gave their unanimous approval for us to work on a Grant and License Agreement with Shane’s Inspiration for design services related to the development of an inclusive playground at Beyer Community Park, and authorized the City Manager to execute the agreement.
Families made their voices heard by expressing the importance of having an inclusive and accessible playground that can accommodate people with physical and sensory challenges. It’s exciting to know that this park is not only for children; but as well as for parents and grandparents who use adaptive equipment. We expect families from surrounding areas of Modesto to also benefit from using such a playground.
What’s next? After the blueprint is created based on the feedback from families, local community agencies and organizations, fundraising efforts will begun. Initial costs for the playground is estimated between $750,000-$1,000,000, excluding maintenance costs. We will keep you posted with how you can help in making it happen in our community.
