Have you heard? State-of-the-Art Medical Care and Treatment For Children With…
…various Orthopedic, Burns, Spinal Cord Injury and Cleft Lip and Palate conditions at Shriners Hospitals for Children. Financial affordability may not be an issue in the delivery of care. The disorders and diseases that they treat are wide-ranging and diverse; therefore, this is not an all-inclusive list of conditions treated.
My wife and I have a 9 yr. old daughter with cerebral palsy (CP). Her tight and weak muscles strain her physically; as a result, she experiences pain daily. Since her speech and language is delayed, she cannot express her feelings about the discomfort of having to wear braces. Upon hearing about Shriners, we took her to Shriners-Sacramento for an evaluation of her abnormal gait (walk, run and step). After the first evaluation, she was referred to their gait lab for a more advanced assessment of her walking difficulties. The comprehensive assessment will help to us gain a better understanding of her challenges and decide on an effective clinical treatment for her, including surgery.
There are only few facilities in the U.S. that manage state-of-the-art gait labs. You may not need a physician referral or insurance coverage. If needed, free transportation to/from Shriners may be available. We were highly impressed with the level of attention and evaluation by experienced physicians specializing in CP and its advanced facility in a kid-friendly environment.
